There are many sources of information about wind energy in general. The following resources offer quantities of reliable information and include the U.S Department of Energy, the Maine Wind Power Task Force (created by Governor Baldacci), The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA, an industry association), and the Union of Concerned Scientists (the most respected environmental organization on energy matters).
The Union of Concerned Scientists offers information about the basics of wind and how it works, with emphasis on environmental impacts. They also provide an overview of energy policy and different energy sources, including information on the need to shift to clean, renewable sources.
The American Wind Energy Association provides wind power information in more detail. It includes a list of the top 20 states with wind potential. Maine and New York are the only two states in the northeast on the list.
The US Department of Energy is another good source of wind power information.
The Maine Governor's Task Force on Wind Power is currently studying wind power and how Maine might revise its review of wind projects to enable more wind development without harming environmental goals. It includes many items collected for the task force's information about wind policy and regulations in Maine. The task force is expected to present its report to the Governor in early 2008.
Finally, here is a map showing Maine's wind potential.
